Lyric Square, in the heart of Hammersmith, is a 14-storey office building completed in the late 1970s as part of the Kings Mall development.  Little modernisation work has been carried out over the years, leaving it dated and tired.

During the strip out process many original internal features and finishes were exposed which provided a strong design cues for the The Office Group.

The new entrance reception was focused upon the original curved honey limestone feature wall and sculptural concrete and terrazzo cantilevered stair structures that were discovered through the strip out process. These features were complimented with a bespoke mosaic tiled floor, reminiscent of Carlo Scarpa’s Olivetti Venice showroom, a poured concrete reception desk and deep-red stripped timber ceiling panels. Further character was introduced through exposure of the original concrete soffits and board-marked wall construction in tandem with spun light fittings and dropped pendants.

This palette of concrete, tiling, timber and terrazzo set the thematic for the remainder of the interiors. The simple arrangement of materials maintained continuity throughout the common parts and was executed in a detailing reminiscent of the period of architecture.

In the core areas colour was introduced through bottle green ceramic wall tiles and vibrant orange metalwork, drawing reference from the strong aesthetics of Verner Panton designs from the same period.

Sumptuous colours, fabrics and materials have created an exciting new co-working space enhanced by a cafe and outdoor terrace.
