Working in collaboration with Ingka Centres and KERB, on an ambitious, plant-forward Saluhall Food Hall project based in San Francisco, USA.The interior concept was influenced by Nordic municipal buildings, grand in volume yet egalitarian in attitude these iconic public buildings exist across Scandinavia as places of civic pride and shared amenity. The interiors use natural materials and forms, and borrow motifs developed by Swedish modernist architects. The food hall covers two floors with five independent traders plus an in-house cookery school and aims to offer 80% plant-based choices for visitors. Bespoke furniture designs were developed as part of the project, including chairs and bar stools and wayfinding signage. Inside the existing building three oval atria drop down through the space, a looping, forest-like staircase encourages visitors to explore, and a new family of simple dining chairs inhabit the space in an array of finishes and proportions. Colours are food based, bright and optimistic.
