What began with a small project for the Hong Kong International Art Fair has become a decade-long exploration of temporary structures for similar events. How do you create a distinctive experience within an existing conference centre, for just a few days and with minimal waste? Inspired by Glenn Murcutt’s outback homes, we used backlit corrugated plastic at Sydney Contemporary that could be given to charity afterwards. Coloured furniture was resprayed for use in subsequent years. The plywood used at Art Central in Hong Kong – as a portal to the city’s largest ever temporary structure – was chipped down after the show.
