The Dock Event

News — 13 Jan 2010

'An emporium of creative talent instigated by Tom Dixon for The London Design Festival, September 2009' sponsored by Derwent London.

Tom Dixon created a fusion of design, architecture, food and champagne for the VIP opening party of Portobello Dock. Sponsored by Veuve Cliquot the event catered for over 1,500 visitors. Wanting to make use of all the empty floor space, not yet occupied in the Canal Building, Dixon created ‘a temporary design village’ during the London Design week.

Among others, young designer Thorsten Van Elten and East end designer purveyor TYE+CO filled the Canal building with their pop-up shops. The RB building was teeming with jewellery and furniture designers such as Very Good and Proper; the budget minded Furniture Company from young Brits, Andre Klauser and Ed Carpenter.

‘Tipped as one of the hot events of the festival, so it proved to be, housing over 50 exhibitors including pop up shops and designer food outlets over the course of a week’. The event attracted over 7,400 people throughout the week.
