Stiff + Trevillion works alongside Pembroke to complete listed Banking Hall renovation
News — 16 Mar 2026
Stiff +Trevillion and its client, international real estate investor and developer Pembroke, have delivered the transformation of Grade II* 41 Lothbury.
The historic 125,000 sq ft building, next to the Bank of England, sits in the heart of the City of London and represents a significant achievement for both Stiff + Trevillion and Pembroke who have carefully and thoughtfully brought this grand heritage building back to life.
Originally built in the late 1920’s for the London and Westminster Bank, the refurbishment focused on restoring the magnificent Banking Hall, preserving historic features and updating the space for the building's new occupier, international legal firm Addleshaw Goddard. This vast, cathedral-like space has been reimagined as an arrivals and meeting lounge with a café for building users and visitors.
The office provision has been increased by remodelling the massing on the upper floors whilst also carefully protecting the sensitive street views in this important conservation area. Plant equipment was relocated to a new roof level enclosure enabling the expansion of the premium, top floor office space. Adjacent flat roof areas have been converted to soft-landscaped terraces, providing upper floors with outdoor space that benefits from breathtaking views across the city. Terraces are organised to deliver communal and private areas offering flexibility of leasing arrangements.
Those commuting by bike or on foot now enjoy a rationalised arrival experience, with a brand-new bike store and luxurious changing facilities along with a fitness studio including a refreshing ‘Cool Wall’, to offer post-exercise relief.
The development has delivered increased office floor floorspace, creating a striking and stylish workplace, rejuvenating this historic Listed asset.
