Messums West Architectural Symposium for 2025 looks a the vexed issue of homes and housing.  The day long event takes place at Messums West in Wiltshire on October 4th 2025.

The symposium will explore issues of scale, design, beauty, sustainability and appropriateness, themes that are rarely discussed in the current housing debate which mainly focuses on a simple need for more. The symposium will bring these ideas to the fore and consider the relationship between aesthetic design and functionality.

The day will be divided into a morning session focusing on housing and an afternoon session that considers individual homes. The topics being interrogated will incorporate multi-generational living, urban regeneration, single homes and large housing schemes, all debated through the lens of quality design and good architecture.

The day will be chaired by Peter Clegg, Keith Bradley (Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios) and Mike Stiff (Stiff+Trevillion). Notable speakers will include:

  • Meredith Bowles (Mole Architects);

  • Mellis Haward (Archio); 

  • Alex Ely (Mae Architects); 

  • Clementine Blakemore (Clementine Blakemore Architects); 

  • Magnus Ström (Ström Architects) 

  • Abigail Hopkins and Amir Sanei (Sanei Hopkins Architects). 

The series of individual talks will be followed by panel discussions and audience Q&A. The events runs from 10am - 5pm and tickets can be for the day can be booked here.
